Is the US Heading Back to the Online Gambling Industry?

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

The current recession in the economy of the United States may soon have an affect on international online gaming providers.

A standard in land-based casinos of the United States has been the hand out of what are referred to as “comps.” Players who visit the casinos are often offered great bonus prizes in return for continued gambling. These “comps” can come as free meals, overnight accommodations, tickets to shows, or even money.

This has not found a place in the online gaming sector. The benefit of these comps is that clients will often stay and wager even more money than they had intended to in a particular visit. Online gaming is restricted to bonus cash, or free games. This limitation has also affected the land-based locations. In particular, the reports from Atlantic City show almost a 24% reduction in comps paid out in the previous 12 months.

As it stands, the free hand-outs are not providing a significant return on their investment any more. The struggle to keep gamers going has been seen throughout the US, and is failing along side the consumer economy as a whole.

As the casino freebies continue to be reduced, more gamers are turning to online games and paying out less overall in the land-based locations. The failing economy has put such a strain on the industry that the only answer may come as a re-opening of online betting capabilities.

Similar happenings in UK land based bingo halls are making for a booming online bingo industry. Coupled with the introduction of bingo on the television as well as changing regulations in several neighboring countries, the online world of gambling is looking towards great increases as the year progresses.

Viewers and critics believed that the huge revenues created by this show were the result of improperly run phone-ins and quiz games. The viewers were being charged a large fee just for entering by phone. This negative view of the entire dedicated channel forced revenues to plummet, leaving the executives no choice but to cancel.
